Raymond Wielgopolan, 95, of Naplate, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at The Landings Senior Living in Batavia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 10, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ottawa, with Rev. Nicolas Wilson, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, where Full Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 33 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.

Raymond was born on December 29, 1927 in Naplate to Stanley and Catherine (Siminski) Wielgopolan. He was a graduate of Ottawa Township High School and received his Associates Degree from IVCC. He worked as an electrician in instrumentation at Libby Owens-Ford where he retired after 39 years of service. Ray married Lois Guerard on August 27, 1955 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Naplate and later St. Patrick’s Church in Ottawa. He served on the Holy name Society for St. Mary’s and the Men’s Club. Ray was also a former village trustee for Naplate and ran the water department. He enjoyed alpine skiing and especially loved gardening.

He is survived by three children, Susanne (Doug Krieger) Wielgopolan of Colorado Springs, CO Marc Wielgopolan of Berkeley,IL, and Barbara (Todd) Turnquist of Batavia and three grandchildren Cailley Krieger, Alexandra (Donovan Kilker) Turnquist, and Katelyn Turnquist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lois, and 12 siblings; Anastasia Wielgopolan, Steve Wielgopolan, Mary Malik, Helen Geiger, Louise Washko, Sophie Micklos, Henrietta Ohlendorf, Josephine Oberta, Florence Dammann, Stanley Wielgopolan, Edward Wielgopolan, and Francis Wielgopolan.

Pallbearers will be Cailley Krieger, Alexandra Turnquist, Katelyn Turnquist, Donovan Kilker, Todd Turnquist, and Doug Krieger.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Wielgopolan, Dino Monterastelli, and Bob Backos.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Disaster Relief Fund or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Raymond has been laid to rest in the Garden of Prayer at Oakwood Memorial Park.
