Dr. Elizabeth "Betty" Ohlmacher 1924-2014

Dr. Elizabeth A. (Betty) Ohlmacher, formerly of Ottawa, passed away January 14, 2014, at Heritage Health in Normal, Illinois.

Private graveside services were held at Oakwood Memorial Park. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Betty was born December 14, 1924, in Ottawa, to Winfield Scott and Esther (Thomas) Ohlmacher.

She received her B.S. from Northern Illinois University, her M.S. from Colorado State University and her Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University. She taught several levels and spent the majority of her years at Maine Township High Schools, Park Ridge, as District and Building Chairman of the Home Economics Departments. She belonged to numerous Home Economics/Vocational/Teacher organizations. She was a member and President of Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Park Ridge, transferring to Omicron Chapter when she returned to Ottawa and a member and President of LaSalle County Retired Teachers Association.

Betty is laid to rest in the Garden of Prayer.

Robert C. Weyand 1947-2014

Robert C. Weyand, 66, of Ottawa passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

A memorial service for Bob will be 11:00 am Friday, January 17, 2014 at Shrine of Rest Chapel at Oakwood Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Adrie officiating. A visitation will be 10:00 – 11:00 one hour prior to services on Friday. He will be inurned at Oakwood Memorial Park.

Bob was born April 27, 1947 in Ottawa, Illinois to Robert and Wanda (Matthews) Weyand. He retired from Bill Walsh Honda. He loved sports especially the Bears and Cubs. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and cars.

Robert is laid to rest in The Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in the Sanctuary of Faith.

Doris Strickland 1916-2014

Doris Strickland, 97, of Ottawa, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Rivershores Care Center in Marseilles.

Funeral services and burial will be private at Oakwood Memorial Park. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home.

Doris was born November 14, 1916, to George and Minnie Hodgson. She was married to David H. Strickland on December 8, 1934 in Ottawa. David died May 22, 1987.

Doris is laid to rest in the Garden of the Last Supper.

Kyle Johnson 1934-2014

Kyle Johnson, 79, of rural Sheridan, died Tuesday morning, January 7, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, in the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa with Tara Kieschnick, and Jim Bagby, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 10.

Kyle was born on January 10, 1934, in Milbrook, to Russell and Edith (Conkling) Johnson. He graduated from Newark High School where he played basketball, and later played at Aurora College. He married Carol Worthington on May 29, 1959 in Cairo, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years.
Kyle retired from Illinois Bell (AT&T) after 38 years. He and his son, Jim, owned and operated the Winter Harvest Christmas Tree Farm.

Kyle is laid to rest in the Garden of Inspiration.

Joe Walcker 1934-2014

Joe Delano Walcker, 79, of Ottawa passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Memorial service will be 6:00 pm Friday, January 10, 2014 with military services at Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Visitation will be 3:00 – 6:00 prior to services Friday, January 10, 2014 at Ottawa Funeral Home. We will be closing with military honors.

Joe was born January 18, 1934 in Startup, Washington to Henry and Sylvia (Schrader) Walcker. He served in the United States Air Force for four years during the Korean Conflict. He married Zanna Fleming July 18, 1964 in Ottawa, Illinois; they would have been married fifty years this July. He retired from AT&T after 29 years of service. He was a member of Moose Lodge 960 and American Legion. He loved country music, dancing, being out on his boat, and he walked daily.

Joe is laid to rest in the Shrine of Rest mausoleum in the Sanctuary of Seasons.

Barry Girard 1962-2014

Barry Girard, 51, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away January 5, 2014, at Ottawa Pavilion.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, at Ottawa Funeral Home with Pastor Sherry Stevenson of the First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakwood Memorial Park.

Barry was born November 25, 1962, in Tucson, Arizona, to Louis and Shirley M. (Stalker) Girard. He married Lisa Stohr on July 18, 1981, in Ottawa, Illinois. He was a graduate of Ottawa High School and Automotive School in Wichita, Kansas. Barry worked as an auto mechanic and maintenance. The last few years he was self employed.

Barry is laid to rest in the Garden of the Ten Commandments.

Christine Dilley 1954-2014

Christine Dilley, 59, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014 at her home.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:30 Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Mary’s Church in Naplate with Rev. Mike Adrie officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00am prior to services Monday, January 6, 2014 at Ottawa Funeral Home.

Christine was born May 24, 1954, in Ottawa to William and Virginia (Varrato) DePaoli. She married William C. Dilley on March 19, 1975 in Ottawa he preceded her in death May 9, 1991.

She worked for Hilton Company taking care of telephone reservations. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Naplate.

Christine is laid to rest in the Garden of the Ten Commandments.

Vallie Peterson 1915-2013

Vallie C. Peterson, 98, of Ottawa passed away Monday, December 30, 2013 at La Salle County Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be held Monday, January 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Oakwood Memorial Park.

Vallie was born May 15, 1915 north of Seneca in Miller Township in La Salle County, the daughter of Clarence and Cora J. (Serby) Tuntland.  She married Ambrose Melbert Peterson February 18, 1936.  He preceded her in death February 22, 1966.  Vallie is survived by her sons, Jerry Allen (Lynn) Peterson of Marseilles and Melbert Wayne (Beth) Peterson of Nampa, Idaho.  Also surviving are five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one daughter, one granddaughter, one brother and one sister.

Vallie is laid to rest in the Garden of Prayer.

James Cavatorta, Jr. 1934-2013

James Cavatorta, Jr., 79, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away Christmas Day, December 25, 2013, at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at St. Patrick’s Church in Ottawa with Rev. Jules Adator officiating. Entombment will be at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Oakwood Memorial Park.

James was born November 14, 1934, in Ottawa, Illinois, to James and Pearl (Pellegrini) Cavatorta, Sr. He graduated from Southern Illinois University, with a five year music degree in Tenor Voice. He was a Choir Director and School Teacher for many years. He served in the United States Army in the 1950’s. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church.

James is laid to rest in the Shrine of Rest mausoleum in the sanctuary of Memory.

Shirley Dougherty 1930-2013

Shirley Irene (Walker) Dougherty, 83, of Ottawa, died on Sunday December 29, 2013 at the Ottawa Pavilion.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the Chapel for the Good Shepherd at Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa with Rev. Michael Adrie, of St. Francis of Assisi, officiating. Funeral Arrangements are through the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.

Shirley was born on July 9, 1930 in Ottawa, to Elmer and Laura (Cocheran) Walker. She married John Kenneth Dougherty on December 4, 1947. She was a member of St. Francis of Assissi Church in Ottawa.

Shirley is laid to rest in the Garden of Psalms.
