Doug G. Kandell, Oakwood Memorial Park, Ottawa IL

By | Obituaries | No Comments

Doug G. Kandell, 59, passed away at his home in Oshkosh on March 13,2022. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday June 3, 2022 in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Oakwood Memorial Park, with Rev. Duane Kaufman, officiating.
He was born on July 15, 1962 and was raised in Tinley Park, IL. He is survived by his mother, Roberta (Nolte) Kandell; brother Gary Kandell; niece Rachel Kandell and nephew Ryan Kandell. He was proceeded in death by his father, Hans Kandell.
Doug worked as a pressman at a printing company and later moved to WI. Doug was an avid Sawdust Days volunteer and was famous for his fur hats that he wore no matter how hot. Doug was a very good horseshoe player and a sometimes-angry golfer. Except the day he got a hole in one at Farvu Golf Course. He didn’t throw his clubs that day. Doug never lost his love for Chicago. Very tough being in Packer country sometimes. But he knew the Bears only lost to the Pack if the refs cheated. Doug suffered all his life with debilitating arthritis in his body – he had dozens of surgeries as a child. In spite of that Doug loved being with friends, boating, fishing, golfing and just laughing!
Doug’s family would like to thank Jimmi Todd for his loving care of Doug during his final days.

He was laid to rest in the Garden of Hymns.

Janice Kay Anderson (“Jan”), age 74, passed away peacefully March 14, 2022. Jan was born and raised in Ottawa, Illinois. She graduated from Marquette High School and shortly after married her high school sweetheart Richard (“Rich”), with whom she would celebrate 55 years of marriage in April. In 1988, they moved to Hayward, Wisconsin where they owned/operated a corner store, followed by a six-room motel. They retired a few years ago and have been living their best life visiting family and friends, going fishing, and spending the winters in Texas with family.
Jan loved sweets (especially chocolate – Halloween was her favorite time of year), playing cards (family Euchre games were quite rowdy), talking on the phone for hours with her sister, playing nickel slots at the casino, going to her exercise classes, spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, and cleaning (we’re still not sure why she liked to do that). She was a life-long fighter who survived a hysterectomy, melanoma surgery, breast cancer surgery, a rare form of muscular dystrophy, a leg amputation due to vascular blockage, and vascular dementia. Last summer she began having symptoms from a rare and aggressive form of leukemia that ultimately won the battle. She had a big heart and was loved by many.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ervin and Anna Fullerton (Ottawa, Illinois). She is survived by her husband Richard Anderson (Hayward, Wisconsin), daughter Tammy Hartmann and her husband Gary (Houston, Texas), first-cousin/daughter Adine Hartmann and her husband Michael (Chicago, Illinois), adult grandchildren Erin and Gabe Hartmann (Houston, Texas) and Michael and Ashley Hartmann (Chicago, Illinois), sister and best friend Joyce Roalson and her husband Larry (Ottawa, Illinois), brother Jerry Fullerton and his wife Jan (Roseburg, Oregon), and brother Ervin Jr. Fullerton and his wife Rita (Ottawa, Illinois).

Frances M. Collins, 94, of Barrington, Illinois, died on May 10, 2022, at Joanne’s House hospice care in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Funeral services will be held May 25, 2022, at 11:00 am at Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, with Rev. Philip Peterson, Pastor of Stavanger Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the start of the service.

Frances M. Collins was born to Arnold and Edith (Erickson) Olson, of Seneca, Illinois, on February 22, 1928. She grew up on the family farm with her two brothers, Gene and Clair (Kay) Olson, eventually graduating from Seneca High School in 1946. She attended Michigan State University and began a career teaching first grade, even teaching in Germany for a while. Fran met the love of her life when Gene thought to introduce her to one of his army buddies he served with during the Korean War, William (Bill) Collins. The two of them married on June 29, 1963, at Trinity Lutheran in Ottawa. Fran and Bill were always active in their church and sought to honor Christ, beginning each day reading their Bibles together at the kitchen table. Both enjoyed boating and frequented The Abbey at Lake Geneva. They loved hosting family members and friends for dinner or game nights. Fran had the true gift of hospitality and entertained as if it were effortless. They loved attending concerts at Ravinia, where she brought everything for perfect lawn picnics, including a tin of homemade cookies. While Fran never had children of her own, she was like a mom to her nieces, nephews, and godchildren, and “grandma” to their kids. She (and Bill) eagerly went to every school program and recital, usually with beautiful roses to give from their gardens. They took the younger ones to Ravinia, passing along the love of music under the stars. Fran meant so much to her family that she has a namesake, with one her great-great-nieces being named Camryn Frances.

Frances is survived by her many nieces and nephews, Gary (Lynn) Olson, Greg Olson, Debbie Justice, Linda (Greg) Chellino, Terri Olson, Howard (K.J.) Olson, great nieces and nephews, Lisa (Mike) Upham, Steven (Brooke) Olson, Andrew Olson, Scot Olson, Jeff (Julie) Gaines, Timothy Justice, Jennifer (Justin) Chase, several great-great nieces and nephews, and her godchildren as well.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Maynard Tesdal, by her husband of 63 years, William Collins, her brothers Gene (Marge) Olson and Kay (Georgia) Olson, and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Steven Olson, Michael, Kyle, and Ryan Upham, Nicholas White, and Dillon Moesch. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary, Greg, and Howard Olson, Greg Chellino, and Harv and Curt Altman.

She was laid to rest in the Garden of Devotion.
