Angielee Walker Smith 1924-2014 Oakwood Memorial Park Ottawa IL

Angielee Walker Smith, 90, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Ottawa Pavilion.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Sherry Stevenson officiating.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park.

Angielee was born May 10, 1924 in Bledsoe County, TN, the daughter of William Estel and Letitia (Burgess) Walker.  She married Weirick W. Smith September 7, 1944 in Greenville, SC.

Angielee attended Ottawa First Church of the Nazarene.  She had been employed as a CNA at Pleasant View and Ottawa Care.  In her leisure she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, walking, and above all spending time with her family.

Angielee is laid to rest in the Garden of Hymns.

Elizabeth B. Mitchell 1924-2014 Oakwood Memorial Park Ottawa IL

Elizabeth B. (Spicer) Mitchell, 89, of Ottawa, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at Pleasant View in Ottawa.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, with Pastor Sherry Stevenson, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mitchell was born August 9, 1924 in Marseilles to James and Barbara (Kauski) Spicer. She married Vernon Mitchell on June 7, 1958 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Ottawa. She worked at the Seneca Shipyards, and later at Nabisco. She was a member of the Ottawa First Church of the Nazarene in Ottawa, where she was active in Bible Studies, and taught Sunday School for many years.

Elizabeth is laid to rest in the Garden of the Last Supper.

Gladys D. Bruck 1918-2014 Oakwood Memorial Park Ottawa IL

Gladys D. (Serby) Bruck, 95, of Ottawa, died on Thursday morning, May 15, 2014 at Pleasant View.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Epworth United Methodist Church, with Rev. Nancy Rethford, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa. 

Gladys was born on September 11, 1918 in rural Wedron to Elmer and Dora (Budach) Serby. She married Vernon V. Bruck on August 6, 1938 in Davenport, IA. Gladys was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, the Dayton Women’s Club and AARP. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and watching the Cubs. Mrs. Bruck loved spending time with her family and especially the outings at the farm.

Gladys is laid to rest in the Garden of Prayer.

Jesse Haage 1945-2014 Oakwood Memorial Park Ottawa IL

Jessie (Ward) Haage, 87, of Ottawa, died on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the LaSalle County Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, with Rev. Duane Kaufman, officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service on Saturday, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Haage was born on January 7, 1927, in Leitchfield, KY to Aud and Eliza (Haycraft) Ward. She married George Haage on July 28, 1945, in Ottawa. She worked as a seamstress and clerk at Peerless Cleaners for many years.

Jesse is laid to rest in the Garden of Prayer.

Gertrude M Milam 1920-2014 Oakwood Memorial Park Ottawa IL

Gertrude M. Milam 93 of Streator died Friday evening (May 9, 2014)  at Heritage Health, Streator.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator with Rev. Roger Hurlbut, officiating. Visitation will be from Noon-2:00 PM Thursday at Hagi Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Park, Ottawa.
Mrs. Milam was born July 29, 1920 in Lee County Illinois the daughter of Lars and Caroline (Tvedt) Jossendal. She married Warren Milam, Sept. 3, 1943 in Sioux Falls SD. He preceded her in death May 23, 2013.
Gertrude had been a clerk at the former Rudy’s Market, Streator. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Streator and had been active when the monument to the Canteen ladies was built at the Santé Fe depot, Streator and with the Sons of Norway. She attended Shabbona Grade School and was a graduate of Shabbona High School, class of 1938.

Gerttrude is laid to rest in the Garden of Inspiration.

Bernadine J Jewett 1931-2014 Oakwood Memorial Park Ottawa IL

Bernadine J. Jewett, 82, of Burlington, died at 4:26 AM Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born June 4, 1931, in Richland Center, WI, she was the daughter of Veron and Beulah Stout Jones. On July 25, 1950, she married H. Sherwood “Woody” Jewett in Richland Center, WI. He died February 14, 2011.

She was a housewife and mother.

She was a 1949 high school graduate in Ithaca, WI.

She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Ottawa, IL and Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene in Burlington. She loved her family, and enjoyed cooking, baking cookies for her grandkids, and taking care of her home.

Mia Faith Alsene 2014 Oakwood Memorial Park Ottawa IL

Mia Faith Alsene was born on May 6, 2014 at 2:35 p.m. at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria and was called home to Heaven at 4:27 p.m. the same day. 
Private graveside services and burial were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13 at Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa, with Rev. David Kipfer, Pastor of St. Columba Church, officiating. Arrangements are through Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.

Mia is survived by her parents Andrew and Sarah (Ross) Alsene, of Ottawa; maternal grandparents, David and Helena Ross, of Ottawa; paternal grandparents, Walter and Vickie Alsene, of Ottawa; great-grandmother, Marge Jacobs, of Ottawa; and great-grandmother, Hazel Zimmerman, of Peoria. She is also survived by several aunts and uncles; David and Brittany Ross, of Ottawa; Chris and Liz Thrush, of Ottawa and Chris Bryant and Karen Alsene, of Pleasant Prairie, WI and cousins, Ryan, Kyle and Evan Thrush, of Ottawa and Bailey and Parker Bryant, of Pleasant Prairie, WI.

She was preceded in death by great-grandfather John Jacobs, great-grandparents David, Maggie and Muriel Ross, great-grandparents Richard and Mary Johnson and great-grandparents Elmer and Leta Alsene.

Memorials may be directed to the neonatal intensive care unit at the Children’s Hospital of Illinois at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
