Roger D. Cottingham, 83, of Spring Valley, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am, Wednesday, March 21, 21018 at Ottawa Funeral Home, where stories of Roger’s life will be shared. Visitation will be from 9-11am, two hours prior to the services, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park.

Roger was born May 22, 1934 in Ottawa to Harold E. and Edith C. (Burisch) Cottingham. He married Barbara Ann Hoeft on July 12, 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ottawa.

Roger was a proud member of the United States Army, serving from 1957 to 1959. He retired from Libby Owens Ford after 46 years. Roger loved hunting, fishing and cooking; and in his younger years, he enjoyed scuba diving. He was a hard working man with a strong love for his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barb; two daughters, Laura (Jerry) Bickett and Teresa Cottingham, both of Ottawa; five grandkids, Chad and Joshua Ginter, Marisa (Phil Rosentiel) Bickett, and Jasmine and Sierra Scott; and four great-grandkids, Ava, Aria, Malik, and Maleah.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandson, RJ; and one brother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his daughters.

Roger has been laid to rest in the Garden of the Ten Commandments.
