William Flaa, 89, of Ottawa died on Wednesday night, November 26, 2014 at the Ottawa Pavilion.

A private family service will be held at Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, with Rev. Rodney Juell, Pastor, of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Memorial Park where Full Military Rites will be accorded.

Bill was born on July 12, 1925, in Ishpeming, MI to Nicholas and Celia (Savola) Flaa. After graduating from Ishpeming High School he entered the US Army and served with the 250th Signal Operation Company in Europe as a teletype and telegraph operator. He later graduated with honors from Michigan Tech in Houghton, MI with a degree in Civil Engineering. Bill was employed for 35 years with the Illinois Department of Transportation and was District Materials Engineer when he retired. He was a Professional Registered Engineer, a member of the VFW and Faith Lutheran Church

Bill married Ethel Rose “Rosie” Stortz in El Paso, IL on May 5, 1951 and they moved to Ottawa shortly thereafter.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie, 2 daughters, Judith (Frank) Fichera, of Glen Ellyn and Carol (John) Craig, of Ottawa, a son David (Janet) Flaa, of Morris 7 grandchildren; Jamie (Joey) McNinch, Molly(Casey) Baker, Jenny (Luke) Moo, Nick (Bea) Fichera, Katie (Isaac) Heath and Sarah and Kevin Flaa and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jack.

Memorials may be directed to the Faith Lutheran Church Building fund or the donor’s choice.

William is laid to rest in the Garden of Devotion.
