Ellen “Bogie” L. Smothers, 82, of Hume passed away at her home on Wednesday, August 22, 2024.

Ellen was born to George and Florence (Meany) Harden on June 17, 1942 in Kokomo, IN.  She married John Smothers on June 14, 1963 in Dundee, IL.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Dennis) Cary; two grandchildren, Austin (Kelsey) Blair and Tressica (Logan) Jeffers; three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Weston, and Emma; four siblings, Donny (Sheran) Harden, George (Gaylene) Harden, Bobby (Ronna) Harden, and James “Harvey” (Patty) Harden; brother-in-law Kenny (Elleanor) Smothers; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John Smothers; parents, George and Florence Harden; and seven siblings, Janet Harden, Charmange Kelley, Carol Harman, Jeanie Bastian, Lyle Harden, Dennis Harden, and Russell Harden.

Ellen enjoyed watching TV and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024 at St. Columba Catholic Church in Ottawa, IL.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park also in Ottawa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hume Fire Department.

Ellen was laid to rest in the Garden of the Last Supper at Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa, IL.
