Shirley Romano, Oakwood Memorial Park, Ottawa IL

Shirley Romano, 83, of Ottawa, IL, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, February 3, 2020 at Ottawa Funeral Home, with Rev. Sherry Stevenson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 am before the service. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park.

Shirley was born on December 27, 1936, in DeKalb, IL to Clyde and Clora (Thomas) Mann. She married George Romano on January 28, 1961 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ottawa.

Shirley worked at the Hallmark store in Ottawa, at Opportunity School preschool, and was a member of Crossbridges Church.

She is survived by her husband, George Romano; one son Greg (Cindy) Romano of Noblesville, IN and one daughter Lisa Romano (Bob) Palacios of Wheaton, IL; as well as five grandchildren, Jon, Hayley, and Krissy Romano, and Katie and Lexi Palacios.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers will be Greg and Jon Romano, and Bob, Lisa, Katie and Lexi Palacios.

She was laid to rest in the Garden of Hymns.

Bernice L. Brue, Oakwood Memorial Park, Ottawa IL

Bernice L. Brue, 94, of Ottawa, passed peacefully on Saturday evening, January 25, at LaSalle County Nursing Home surrounded by the love of her family.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, with Rev. Ray Mitchell, Pastor of Praise Center Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home.

Bernice was born on August 27, 1925 in Prairie Center, Illinois to Ole and Rose (Thorson) Nelson. She married Reuben A. Brue in January of 1943. Bernice was one of the last Radium Dial Girls. She later drove a grain truck to help her husband, Reuben, when he was starting his business. She was a member of the Praise Center Assembly of God, the Women of the Moose, and Volunteered at the Sheridan Prison. She served on the Board of the Salvation Army, and was a volunteer at Re-runs.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Sharon (Wayne) McGuire, of Naperville, Debbie (Scott) Robinson, of Naperville, 2 sons, David “Reuben” (Barb) Brue, of Ottawa, and Chuck (Trudy) Brue, of Ottawa; 12 grandchildren: Kim Miller, Cindy Hayes, Paige Kmetz, Kevin Raber, Jeff Brue, Luke Brue, Doug Brue, Taylor Robinson, David Kerwell, Jacob Kerwell, Lisa Brennan, and Molly Dickman, and 9 great-grandchildren: Justin, Harris, Pearson, Madison, Ella, Ayden, Presleigh, Olivia, Chloe, and one great-great grandson, Logan, and many others who lovingly called her Grandma Brue.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 21, 2007, and 2 brothers, Reuben and Herman “Melvin” Nelson.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and Ryan Hayes and Matt Kmetz.

She was laid to rest in the Garden of the Last Supper.

Doris Meyer, Oakwood Memorial Park, Ottawa IL

Doris Meyer, 90, of Ottawa, IL, passed away Saturday, January 11,2020 at Aperion Care Marseilles.

A private burial will be held at a later date. Cremation rights have been accorded to the Ottawa Funeral Home.

Doris was born November 18, 1929, in Spencerville, OH, to Garner and Gladys (Zimmerman) Davis. She married Charles Meyer on March 10,1949 in Ladd, IL. He died Oct 6,1989.

She worked as a Hairdresser.

She is survived by her son, Dale Meyers of Ottawa; her grandchildren, Danny and Gabriel Lovell; five great grandchildren; and two sisters, Martha Spicer and Lorretta Feldman.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters; six brothers; her daughter, Janet Lovell; a son Charles Meyer Jr.

She is laid to rest in Oakwood Memorial Park in the Garden of the Last Supper.
