Vivian Harrison Wagner, Oakwood Memorial Park, Ottawa IL

Vivian Harrison Wagner, 81, died on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, in Lakeland Florida.

Vivian resided at Grand Villa Assisted Living where she enjoyed playing bingo with the other residents. She was born in Atlantic, Iowa and was one of four children.  During her younger years as a stay-at-home mom Vivian sold Tupperware and Avon.  She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary before retiring from the Polk County School Board in 2000. Vivian was also a volunteer tutor for adult literacy.  Her greatest enjoyments were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss their “Granny.”

The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4450 Harden Blvd., Lakeland, FL. Lakeland Funeral Home has been entrusted with here services.  Inurnment will take place at a later date at Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa IL.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Paul Lutheran School Scholarship Fund.

Vivian has been laid to rest in the Garden of Psalms.

Glenn Marten, Oakwood Memorial Park, Ottawa IL

Glenn Marten, 93, of rural Ottawa died on Friday, October 6, at his home.   Funeral Services will be at 12:00 noon on Monday October 9, in Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church in Ottawa with the Rev. Tim Johnson, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at the church.  Arrangements are through the Mueller Funeral Home.

Glenn was born on Nov. 9, 1923 at home to Otto and Emma (Breyer)Marten.  He farmed his entire life in Fall River Township until retiring in 1989.  He married Helen P. Eltrevoog on Nov. 25, 1951 at Bethel Lutheran Brethren church.  He was a member of the Church and the LaSalle County Farm Bureau.

 He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen, 2 daughters, Glenda (William) Meyer and Paula Wallace, both of rural Ottawa, 3 grandchildren, Melinda  Meyer and Jillian Meyer, and Bryce Wallace, and 2 great grandchildren, Thomas William “Liam” Wallace, and Avery Wallace.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Lester and Harold Marten, a sister, Arlene Cole,  a son-in-law Thomas Wallace and 2 grandchildren in infancy, Gilda Anne and William Joseph Meyer.

 Memorials may be directed to the Bethel Lutheran Brethren church, Tell it Again Radio Program, the Kids Club, or the Grand Ridge Fire Department.

Glenn has been laid to rest in the Garden of Psalms.

Flora Belle Hertzner, Oakwood Memorial Park, Ottawa IL

Flora Belle Hertzner, age 98, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 at her residence with her loving family by her side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 4th at St. Columba Church with Reverend David Kipfer officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday with prayers at 3:45 p.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home.  Pallbearers will be David Hertzner, Jr., Albert Hertzner, Gerald Arnold, Frank, Peter and Albert Alfano, Gregory Snell, Jr., James and Aaron Snell.  Honorary pallbearer will be William Arnold.

Flora was born June 15, 1919 in Ottawa, a daughter of William Curtis and Ora (Stricklin) Angell.  She married Albert Hertzner January 1, 1937 in Ottawa.  He preceded her in death December 2, 2002.  Surviving are her children, Ruth Ann Arnold of Grand Ridge, Janet (Pete) Alfano of Galesburg and Judy Snell of Ottawa; and a sister, Delores Marshall of Ottawa.  She also leaves 22 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a son, David Hertzner; three grandchildren, Lisa Ann Snell, Curtis Lee Hertzner, and Karen Lucio; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Edwin, Arthur and Francis Angell; a sister, Erma Angell; and sons-in-law Rex Arnold and Greg Snell.

Flora was a member of St. Columba Church where she had served as a Eucharistic Minister and was past president of the Altar and Rosary Society.  She was a retired division manager for Sears Roebuck.  Flora enjoyed crochet and was involved in social groups such as Bridges where she participated in the exercise group, bowling league and made afghans for our soldiers; and the Twilight Travelers camping group.

Flora has been laid to rest in the Garden of the Last Supper.
