Elda M. Hoenes 1917-2014 Oakwood Memorial Park, Ottawa IL

Hoenes, Elda Mary “Horn” age 96 of Centerville, Ohio passed away Wednesday April 29, 2014 at Avalon Otterbein Centerville. She was born to Gustav and Mary Horn on July 23, 1917 in Ottawa, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband;
Ernest Hoenes, sisters; Lois Kolotka and Margaret Jansen. Survivors include her two sons John (Anne) Hoenes of Centerville, Ohio and Glenn (Karen) Hoenes of Seattle, Washington, grandchildren; Sara, Mary, and Andrew. A lifelong resident of Ottawa, Elda was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and valued volunteer at Reruns of Ottawa. Elda, along, with her husband Ernie, also served as a volunteer for Ottawa Regional Hospital. Interment will be at the Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa, IL at a later date. The family asks that memorials be directed to Zion Lutheran Church of Ottawa.

Elda is laid to rest in the Garden of Prayer.

Betty Gross 1924-2014 Oakwood Memorial Park, Ottawa IL

Betty Jean Davis Gross, 90, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, June 30, 2014, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Peter Brick and David Gross officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday at the Ottawa Funeral Home, and one hour before services at church. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park.

Betty was born January 26, 1924, in DuQuoin, Illinois, to Loren and Esther Davis. She married June Gross on July 20, 1943, in Brownsville, Texas during World War II. He died September 27, 2008.

Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church, Oledine Wood Guild, Delta Theta Tau Society and the Doralon Duster’s. She was a wonderful seamstress for many years, a volunteer at the Ottawa Hospital, and spent most of her summers at the north side Ottawa Softball diamond.

She is survived by her daughter, Ginger (Harold) Fogarty; three sons, Terry (Pam) Gross of Frankfort, Il., Tom (Kay) Gross, and Tim (Malia) Gross both of Ottawa; nine grandchildren, Lisa (Mark) Yanule, Sarah (Colby) Zemaitis, Jay (Stephanie) Gross, Brett (Laura) Gross, Matt (Christina) Gross, Chad (Amy) Gross, Brock Fogarty, Keoni Gross and Kekoa Gross; eleven great-grandchildren, Drew, Elle and Anna Zemaitis, Finley, Keelin, Liam and Ainslee Gross, Alexis and Alyssa Yanule, Audrey and Ryan Gross; and her sister, Irma Dean ( Dawson) Duncan of DuQuoin, IL.

She is preceded in death by parents and her husband.

Betty is laid to rest in the Garden of Prayer.

Geraldine M. Johnson 1928-2014 Oakwood Memorial Park, Ottawa IL

Geraldine M. “Gerry” Johnson, 85, of Downers Grove, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, June 28, 2014 in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd Shrine of Rest mausoleum in Oakwood Memorial Park.

Gerry was born July 13, 1928, in Ottawa, to Evelyn and Marvin Foster.  She married Norval Johnson on July 14, 1951, in Ottawa.

She is survived by her son, Gary (Dana) Johnson of Haslet, TX; her daughter Lynn (Don) of Mission Viejo, CA; and her two beloved grandsons, Brandon and Brett, both of CA.

She is preceded in death by he parents, a brother, a sister, and her husband.

Gerry is laid to rest in the Garden of the Last Supper.
