Roger Gary Stortz, 78, of Elmwood, IL, passed away Friday, August 30, 2024 at Carle Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 5, from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Oakwood Memorial Park.

Roger was born April 2, 1946, in Ottawa, IL, to George and Mary (Laffins) Stortz.

Gary started working in his father’s store, Taylor Street Market. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a graduate of Ottawa Township High School and went on to attend Bradley University to attain his Bachelors in Engineering. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Chicago White Sox fan. He enjoyed working on different projects and spending as much time as he could at his lake house. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons, Roger Bradley Stortz and David Jeffery Stortz; his daughter in law, Karin Marie Stortz; his grandchildren, Bram Alexander Stortz, Emerson James Stortz, and Soren George Stortz; and his brother, Barry Stortz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary; his brother, John “Jack” Stortz; and his sister in laws, Barb Stortz and Joanne Stortz.

Rober was laid to rest in the Sanctuary of Prayer at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Oakwood Memorial Park
