Sharon Kay (Mayhall) DeCoursey, age 83, of Ottawa Il, felt Gods arms around her and heard him whisper “Come to Me” on June 21, 2024. Sharon is survived by her children Jeff (Debbie Longest) of Ottawa, IL; Tim (Michelle) of Lewis Center, OH; grandchildren, Bailey (Kiefer Hock) of Nashville, TN; Maxwell of Columbus, OH; and brother, Larry (Bonnie) Mayhall, Ottawa, IL.

Sharon was born in Galesburg, IL March 3, 1941 to Bernard and Esther (Larson) Mayhall. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1959. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. On November 6, 1959, she married the love of her life Lawrence “Larry” DeCoursey. She worked at Ottawa Savings Bank for 35 years beginning as a teller and retiring as Senior Loan Officer. After retiring, Sharon and Larry moved to Galena, OH to be closer to their grandchildren.

Sharon’s passion was her family. She loved holidays when everyone was home, and playing games with her kids and grandkids. But most of all vacations with her children and grandchildren. It was a dream to take everyone to Kauai which they were able to do several times. She loved being able to attend all of her grandchildren’s activities. Nothing brought her more joy than watching Bailey do gymnastics, dance competitions, playing the cello and just hanging out. Her passion for sports grew as she watched Max play football, baseball and hockey. She got to see Homecomings, proms and graduations for both of them. As well as seeing both of them achieve their career goals Bailey as a Doctor and Max as a Pilot. She leaves memories and marks on all those she touched with her food, caring manner and unending support.

She is deeply loved and missed by many friends and family. The family wishes to extend their most sincere thanks to all our friends near and far for their support.

The family request memorials be made to a dementia charity of their choice.

A private celebration of life will take place at a later date at the grave site in Oakwood Memorial Park where Larry and Sharon will be laid to rest.

Sharon was laid to rest with her husband Larry at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in the Sanctuary of Peace at Oakwood Memorial Park.
