John W. Blossy, 92, of Ottawa, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 22, 2021 at the Mueller Funeral Home, Ottawa with Rev. Cheri Stewart, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, Ottawa officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, where full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 33 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Due to current State of Illinois guidelines face coverings and social distancing will be required.

John was born on February 8, 1929 in Lily Lake, IL to William and Iva (Taylor) Blossy. He was a graduate of Tonica High School Class of 1948. John married Mary M. Gutierrez on January 8, 1955 at St. Mary’s Church in DePue. He was a Veteran of the US Army, and served in the Korean War. John was a mechanic for 50 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ottawa, Ottawa River Rescue Squad, and the Ottawa Moose. John volunteered at the hospital and various church committees and served on the Ottawa Planning Board. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and Twilight Travelers campers.

He is survived by two children, Mary Beth Blossy of Ottawa and Kathleen (Brad) Holcman of Oglesby; four grandchildren, Ryan (Linda Pfalzgraf) Holcman, Chad (Ashley) Holcman, Christopher (Rebecca) Holcman, and Katie (Dale Hansen) Holcman; a great grandson, Casey M. Holcman; and a sister, Mardel Trager.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary on October 5, 2015; his step father, Alan Nicolson; two brothers, Carl and George Blossy; and two sisters, Esther Vitale and Cynthia Nicholson.

He was laid to rest in the Garden of Psalms.
