OTTAWA – Betty Ann Ve Zain, age 80, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Weakley and Reverend Raymond Merkerson officiating.  Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at Gladfelter Funeral Home.  Pallbearers will be Joe Ve Zain, Geoff Ve Zain, Steven Ve Zain Jr., Matthew McBee, Sean Ve Zain, Gary Ve Zain, Donovan Lawrence, and Luther Messer Jr.

Betty was born March 17, 1936 in Rockwell, Illinois, a daughter of Joseph and Evelyn (Stevens) Martin.  She married James Ve Zain August 16, 1959 in Ottawa.  Surviving are her husband James Ve Zain of Ottawa; children, Edward Vernoy of Princeton, Holly (Jim) Leonatti of Dalzell, Steven (Jennifer) Ve Zain of Marseilles, James R. (Margaret) Ve Zain of Earlville, and Julie Marie (Rickey) Pratt of Streator; grandchildren, Steven Ve Zain Jr., Heidi Wilson, Donovan Lawrence, Tyler Close, Shainah Ve Zain, Miranda Ve Zain, Ashley Ve Zain, Matthew McBee, Brittany McBee, Reiley Leonatti, and Gary Gebhardt; great-grandchildren, Dylan Ve Zain, Autymn Ve Zain, McKaden, Nicco, and Haze McBee; brothers, Thomas Earl (Pauline) Martin of Chicago and Joseph (Eileen) Martin of Peru; and a sister Evelyn Churchill of Ottawa.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Betty was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.  She waitressed at the Heinz Café, where she met her loving husband, James.  She had also been employed by CTS Knights in Sandwich as a production worker.  In her retired years, Betty became a member of AARP.  She also enjoyed Bingo, scratch-off lottery tickets, sewing, crafts, cooking and poetry.  Betty was also an avid garage sale shopper.  Most important, Betty was a wonderful mother who loved and cherished her family and the times spent with them.  She will be dearly missed by all.  Memorial contributions can be made to the family.  To share a memory or sign the guestbook, please visit www.gladfelterfuneralhome.com or Gladfelter Funeral Home on Facebook.
