Linda J. Luther, 85, of Ottawa, died on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Regency Care in Sterling.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Epworth United Methodist Church, in Ottawa, with Rev. Carolyn Lukasick, Pastor, and Rev. Richard Fassig, co-officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Born May 22, 1931 in Waukegan, she was the daughter of Graham and Mildred (Cohenour) Murphey. She was united in marriage to William Albert Luther on October 21, 1950 at Christ Episcopal Church in Collinsville. He preceded her in death on August 3, 2014.
Linda worked in the receiving room at Carson Pirie Scott in Ottawa from 1962 to 1982. She later worked at Ottawa Wal-Mart and Mailboxes and Parcel Depot until her retirement. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church for over 50 years and the Joanna Circle. Linda served as Sunday school secretary and taught Sunday school for many years. She was an avid Chicago White Sox fan, taking in many games with her husband and children throughout the years. Linda enjoyed bowling, baking, reading, traveling and playing cards with friends.
Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Luther of Ottawa and Nancy Endres, of Ottawa; two sons, William Alan Luther of Ottawa and Thomas Luther (Matt Claeys), of Morrison; three grandchildren, Patricia Endres, Ryan Claeys, and Allison Claeys; and three special great grandchildren, Ryleigh Grove, Jaxson Sawyers, and Calleigh Cheever; a sister-in-law Regina Murphey, of Valencia, CA; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Roger G. Murphey, a son-in-law Lauren Endres, and special cousins Barbara Gibson and Joan Westerhausen with whom she was raised.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Claeys, Larry Linn, Jeff Nugent, Brandon Pohar, Scott Mayeda, and Mike Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be Patricia Endres, Allison Claeys, Martin Carr, Ron Pohar, Dallas Rice, Jim Brennan, and Dave Martin.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
Linda has been laid to rest in the Garden of Psalms.
