PRINCETON – John Henry Arwood, Sr., age 79, of Princeton, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Monday, June 8, 2015 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Batchelor officiating.  Burial will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be Ernie, David, and Shane Grandadam, Wayne Madsen, Dennis McConnaughhay, and Leo Schunke, Jr.  Honorary pallbearer will be John Casey.

John was born October 5, 1935 in Pontiac, the son of Henry and Sina (Garland) Arwood.  He married Lorraine Van Dorn August 14, 1954 at the First Baptist Church in Ottawa.  Surviving are his wife of nearly 61 years, Lorraine, of Princeton; his children, Deborah Martin of Manville, Lori Grandadam of Utica, Dawn (Wayne) Madsen of Wyanet, and John (Cathy) Arwood, Jr. of Cullom; his grandchildren, Amy Crowley, Misty Hendrickson, Ernie, David, and Shane Grandadam, Michael Tarter, Shanel Sparr, Brandon Naderski, and Nicole and Amber Arwood; eight great grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty (Bill) Entwistle of Ottawa and Dorothy Husted of Spruce Pine, NC.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl, and a sister, Hazel Syverson.

John attended Bethel Baptist Church in Princeton.  He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Princeton as well as the Elks Lodge in both Ottawa and Florida.  In his leisure, John enjoyed woodworking.  He was also a very skilled clock maker.  John was devoted to his family and cherished his time spent with his grandchildren.

John is laid to rest in the Garden of the Last Supper.
