Richard F. Moore, 93 of DeKalb died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at the DeKalb Co. Rehab and Nursing Center.
He was born Sept. 6, 1919 in Bellaire, OH. The son of Harry and Ameil (Eggimon) Moore. He married Ruth Pfolsgrof on March 20, 1979 in Ottawa.
Dick was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army for 4 years. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Business from Wittenberg University in Ohio. He worked as a manager for Woolworth’s in Ottawa for 41 years. He also taught business at the Illinois Valley Community College.
At the age of 7, Dick started playing the violin and was known throughout Sycamore and DeKalb as the “Violin Man”. He entertained people at the Fargo Hotel for over 5 years and volunteered his talent at local schools and nursing homes.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Ottawa and a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; one son, Craig (Barbara) Moore; one daughter, Pamela Ann (Edward) Hokett; one step-son, Lanis (Julie) Pfolsgrof; two step-daughters, Gretchen (Michael) Butts and Rebecca (Gerald) Haase; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Thomas and Harry.
His Memorial Service will be on Sunday, Dec. 16th at 2:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 Dekalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178, with Pastor Sandi Graber officiating. Burial will be private at Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa IL.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00-2:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home.
Richard has been laid to rest in the Garden of Prayer.
