Vernon P. “Vern” Johnson, age 83, of Ottawa, Illinois died in his home, surrounded by family, on Friday, December 5, 2025. Vern spent the majority of his life in Ottawa, serving as Director of Probation Services for the 13th Judicial Circuit covering LaSalle, Bureau and Grundy Counties. He was a member of the Crossbridge Community Church of the Nazarene where he served in the choir and “Dare to Care” greeting ministries.

Vern was born to Arthur and Bernice (Myre) Johnson in Ottawa, Illinois on June 29, 1942. He married Virgine “Jean” Powell June 18, 1967 in Polo, IL. She preceded in death June 8, 2024. Vern is survived by his children Heather (Dave) Noble of Ottawa, IL, Eric (Jennifer) Johnson of Chattanooga, TN, Kellie Meiner of Traverse City, MI, and Kirk (Katie) Johnson of Wabash, IN. His family is blessed with eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Sharon Webber of Glendale, AZ.

Vern proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. An avid bowler, he was a member of the Ottawa Bowling Association. Time spent with family was most memorable.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 13, 2025 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Crossbridge Community Church. Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be members of the Ottawa Bowling Association. Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home is honored to serve the Johnson family.

Vern was laid to rest in the Garden of The Last Supper at Oakwood Memorial Park.
