JoAnn Bruce, 91, of Ottawa passed away Monday, March 31, 2025 at ARC of Chillicothe.
Private family burial will be held in Oakwood Memorial Park at a later date. The Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator is in charge of the arrangements.
Born January 4, 1934 in Arma, Kansas she was the daughter of Hugh and Martha (King) McGill. She married Orville L. Bruce on April 29, 1951. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2017.
She is survived by a daughter, Jean (Robert) Cassidy of Washington, Illinois; sons, Steven Bruce of Andersonville, Tennessee and Jason Bruce of Marion, Illinois; grandchildren, Jennifer Sauer of Conway, South Carolina, Michaeal (Brooke) Sanford of Oneida, Tennessee, Chelsea Hazan of Nashville, Tennessee, Jacob (Kayla) Bruce of Anchorage, Alaska, Brianna Hayes of Huntsville, Alabama, April Cecil of Herrin, Illinois, Kristen Cecil of Springfield, Illinois, Jake Bruce of Marion, Illinois and Jaelyn Bruce of Marion, Illinois; 7 great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Duane Bruce; sisters, Juanita Fornelli, Matilda Michael and Mikalee Landers; and brothers, Hugh McGill, Jr. and Thomas McGill.
Born and raised in Kansas JoAnn moved to the Ottawa area when she was 12 years old. She attended local Ottawa grade schools and graduated from Ottawa High School.
She worked through the years for Owens Illinois Glass Company and later became a self-employed artist as well as a homemaker.
She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church.
JoAnn enjoyed gardening and taking care of her yard. She was very artistic and creative and adored spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed by her loving family.
