Barbara J. (McCormick) Hallett, 91, of Ottawa, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at St. Columba Church in Ottawa with Msgr. Mark Merdian, Pastor of the Ottawa Catholic Parishes, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.
Barbara was born on September 18, 1931 in Ottawa to Raymond and Sylvia (Blumenthal) McCormick. She was a graduate of Marquette Catholic High School and Ryburn King Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation, she was employed at Ryburn King Hospital and the Ottawa Medical Center. She was a member of St. Columba Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She married Melvin G. Hallett on November 15, 1952 at St. Columba Church. She volunteered her nursing skills at County Health Clinics and local schools. Barbara enjoyed playing cards with her lady’s groups and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Carolyn) Hallett, of Belvidere; two grandchildren, Brian and Emmy, of Belvidere; two sisters, Shirley Armstrong, Patricia Foster, of Chesterfield, MO; and a brother, Gerald (Cecelia) McCormick, of Peru.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin; two sisters, Marjorie Dille, Mary Lou Baker; six brothers, J. Francis, Donald, Dale “Richard”, Harold, Charles and Richard at birth.
Pallbearers will be Brian Hallett, Mark Armstrong, Kevin McCormick, Tom Baker, Jerry Finch, and Tom Bretag.
Memorials may be directed to the family, to be designated later.
Barbara has been laid to rest in the Garden of the Devotion at Oakwood Memorial Park.
