Carol (Gabrielsen) Costello, 71, of Westchester, IL passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Mueller Funeral Home, Ottawa with Rev. David Daniel, Pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Ottawa officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, Ottawa. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Costello was born on December 19, 1949 in Ottawa, to Arthur and Edna (Brickert) Gabrielsen. She married David Costello on July 1, 1983, in DeKalb, IL. Carol graduated from Ottawa Township High School class of 1967, earned her Bachelor’s Degree and two Master’s Degrees from Northern Illinois University, and a Doctoral Degree in Educational Administration from Loyola University in 2001. Therefore, she earned the title of Dr. Carol Costello. She was principal at Eisenhower Cooperative until her retirement in 2010. After her retirement, she continued to be the Professional Development Coordinator until August, 2020.
She is survived by her husband, David; two daughters, Deanna (Steve) Hendrey of Cary, IL, Julie (Vince) Busse of Burlington, WI, and a son Devon (Stephanie) Larsen of Ottawa; 10 grandchildren, Carson and Kendall Hendrey, Hannah and Hailey Larsen, Alex, Emily, and Logan Godlewski, and Taylor, Brett, and Kylea Busse; a sister, Jane (Tom) Waldron of Ottawa; as well as a niece, Janelle Waldron and a nephew, Brad (Lindsay) Waldron; a great niece, Meredith Waldron, and great nephews, Grant and Taylor Waldron and many cousins including Barb Weeks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Brian Costello; her husband’s parents, Patrice and Fred Fleming and Harry Costello; and brothers-in-law, Todd and Sean Costello.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to Salvation Army in Ottawa or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
