William D. “Bill” Shalter, 68, of Sun City West, formerly of Ottawa, passed away early morning Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at Banner Boswell Hospital in Sun City, Arizona.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31st at Praise Center Assembly of God with Reverend Raymond Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 30th and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Praise Center. Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Bill was born April 5, 1951, in Reading, Pennsylvania to William H. and Betty (Dierolf) Shalter. He graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Geology. He married Margaret J. Westerfield on June 9, 1973, in Greenwood, Indiana. Bill enjoyed reading, swimming, and playing the frustrating game of golf.

With over 30 years of service, Bill work at Unimin (Covia) in the Environmental Affairs department which entailed mostly keeping his boss out of jail. He was a former elder at Praise Center Assemblies of God and volunteered for over decade in their children’s program and regularly taught bible and financial classes there. In addition, he was a member of the Gideon camp for over 20 years in Ottawa and Arizona.

He is survived by his mother Betty Shalter of Greenwood, Indiana, his wife Margaret Shalter in Sun City West, Arizona, and his two children, Rebekah (Shalter) Hall and her husband Daniel of Jasper, Indiana; Will Shalter and wife Melissa (Marusich) of Nokomis, Illinois. Also, he leaves behind five grandchildren, and two sisters, Jane Philbrick her husband Brad Philbrick and Beth Shalter. He was preceded in death by his father William H. Shalter.

Bill was laid to rest in The Garden of Prayer.
