Harry Patrick “Pat” Fleming, Sr., 83, of Sheridan, passed away Wednesday, July 3 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home with Reverend Duane Kaufman officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa.
Pat was born May 20 1936, in Ottawa, to Harry “Buster” and Mary Ellen (Hanlon) Fleming. In 1957, he married Dixie D. Ryan of Tonica, who preceded him in death in 2017. Later, he married Pat Roberts of Streator.
He was employed as a truck driver and drove for Ottawa Cartage Inc., J.P. Wetherby, and LaSalle County Asphalt. He was a Charter and Lifetime member of Ottawa River Rescue. He was a previous committee member of Boy Scout Troop #44, member of the Marseilles Lion’s Club, The National Rifle Association, and Teamster’s Local #722. Pat loved spending time in his garage and watching the canoers come down the Fox River. He was known as the “Old Man at the River.”
Pat is survived by one daughter, Vickie Lynn (Eric) Yacko of Grand Ridge; three sons, Harry P. “Rick” Fleming Jr. of Clinton, Gerald M. “Mick” and John R. “Dick” Fleming, both of Ottawa; and five grandchildren, Kristin (Cain) Damron, Michael (Katie), and Harry Patrick Fleming III, and Joshua and Emily Yacko.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one sister, JoAnn Stevens; one brother, John Holland; and one nephew, Ronald L. “Chief” Fleming.
Memorials may be directed to Ottawa River Rescue or the Marseilles Lions Club.
Pat was laid to rest at Oakwood Memorial Park in the Shrine of Rest, Sanctuary of Faith.
