Dan R. “Ozzie” Ostby Sr., age 62, of Ottawa, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Loyola University Medical Center from Cardio Myopathy & Congestive Heart Failure.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday August 24 at Gladfelter–Roetker Funeral Home with Prayer Service at 3:45 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Saturday August 25 at St. Francis of Assisi Church with Father Augustin Kassa officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Pat Lakan, Mike Dougherty, Ben Lakan, Jason Wolfe, B.J. Cooke, Ed Kahon and Mike Fleming. Honorary pallbearers will be Michelle Gansen, Nicole Ramza, Jessica Tetter, Jennifer Margherio, Sarah Kahon, Melissa Willingham and Stephanie Willingham.
Dan was born July 20, 1956 in Ottawa, Illinois, the son of Harry and Katheryn (Brown) Ostby. He married Marilyn Telfer November 23, 1974 at St. Francis Church in Ottawa. He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn; a son, Dan R. Ostby, Jr. of Ottawa, Sister In-Laws Jan Ramza, Nancy Biffany, Diane Telfer, Penny Willingham and Brother In Law Bob Olsen Jr. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Terri Crain & Mitzi Davis.
Dan retired in 1997 as a pipefitter for Local 597. He enjoyed motorcycle racing , and coaching Minor League, Pony League and Little League baseball for many years. He was a member of the church men’s club, Sons of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge. Dan dearly loved his wife of nearly 44 years, son and family. He cherished spending time with them and his many friends . He was a pillar of strength, kindness, caring and support in the most humble way. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family or to Masses at St. Francis Church.
Dan has been laid to rest in the Garden of Psalms.
