William H. “Bill” Meyer of Battle Creek, MI

Bill, age 90, formerly of Ottawa, IL and now of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away at the Bickford Cottage assisted living facility on Thursday, August 2, 2018.

He is survived by his two daughters Rebecca (Jeff) Easton of Berrien Center, Michigan, and Sallie Meyer of Battle Creek, Michigan; and grandson, Andrew Easton of Berrien Center, Michigan Bill was predeceased by his wife of over 66 years Helen (Lyle) Meyerand parents, John Ernest and Lena (Zeiter) Meyer.

Born Nov. 2, 1927 to John and Lena Meyer in Ottawa, Illinois, Bill attended Ottawa grade and high school until he was drafted into the Army during World War II. During the war, Bill was an ambulance driver, light AA fire control equipment repairman and an ordnance parts clerk. Following the army, he was employed at Bakelite Manufacturing and American Hoechst where he retired after 30 years of service.

Bill was a long-time member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Ottawa, Illinois, and for the past ten years he was also a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, Michigan. Bill will be laid to rest at Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa, Illinois, on Wednesday, August 8, 2018. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Oakwood Memorial Park Chapel, with the service following at 1 p.m. and the United States Army Honor Guard bestowing military honors. Memorials are for the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Building Fund,349 Capital Avenue, NE, Battle Creek, MI 49017.
