Ray Wernstrum, 90, formally of Ottawa, died on Sunday, afternoon March 4, 2018 at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in LaSalle. Private services will be held at Oakwood Memorial Park at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.
Ray was born on April 1, 1927 in Marseilles to Roy and Grace (Allen) Wernstrum. He married Helen Roskos on April 10, 1948 in Marseilles. She passed away on November 17, 2005. Ray served in the US Navy SEABEES during WWII.
He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (William) Kline, of Ft. Myers, FL, and Linda (Michael) Calhoun, of Utica, 5 grandchildren, Kimberly (Art) Kozak, Nicole (James) Horvat, Father Michael Calhoun, Karri (Robert) Jackson and Michael (Jenny) Calhoun. There are 9 great-grandchildren, Cassie Barrett, Thomas Barrett, Tyler Barrett, Andrew Horvat, Annalise Horvat, Brady Calhoun, Rory Calhoun, Helen Grace Jackson and Hannah Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, three brother, Roy, Rex and Don, and two sisters Viola and Royce.
Memorials may be directed to the Illinois Veteran’s Home, LaSalle, Illinois.
Ray has been laid to rest in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Sanctuary of Seasons.
