Marjorie A. Halm, 96, of Ottawa passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Lakewood Nursing Home in Plainfield.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am, Friday, March 23 at St. Francis of Assisi Church with Rev. Corey Krengiel officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 am, prior to the services, at Ottawa Funeral Home. She will be entombed in Oakwood Memorial Park.
Marjorie was born December 22, 1921 in Millington, Illinois to William and Agnes (Wotnoski) Swiger. She married Edmund P. Halm on October 27, 1945 in St. Columba Church; he passed away August 27, 2000.
Marjorie worked for years in Ottawa at Ryburn Memorial Hospital as a labor and delivery nurse. She later worked in the Department of Public Health and then retired in 1985, having worked as a LaSalle County School Nurse for many years. She was a member of the St. Francis Altar and Rosary Society.
She is survived by her children, Judith (Thomas) Oberts of Plainfield, Gerald (Pauline) Halm of Springfield, and Joleen (Gerald) Mallon of Wheaton; her son-in-law, Les Coats of New Lenox; 13 grandchildren, Lori (Kevin) Keegan, Gregory (Laura) Coats, Sheri (Shawn) Lindner, Jacqueline (Lenny) Cernetich, Kristine (Jon) Platzbecker, Vicky (Nick) Redd, Scott (Kristen) Oberts, Michael (Katherine) Halm, Stephanie (Gabriel) Thien, David Halm, Caitlin (Brian) Zahn, Caroline (Thomas) Pilewicz, and Brennan Mallon; 20 great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Zachary Keegan, Adam and Lilly Coats, Brady Lindner, Isabella, Griffin, and Samuel Cernetich, Jenna, Joshua, and Matthew Platzbecker, Carter, Alyssa, and Avery Redd, Garret Oberts, Grace and Andrew Halm, Caleb Thien, and Emmett and Harper Zahn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Janice Coats; a son in infancy, Paul Halm; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Coats and Jeanette Oberts; her sister, Doris (Swiger) Freehill, and her brother, William F. Swiger.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Coats, Scott Oberts, Michael Halm, David Halm, Joshua Platzbecker, Griffin Cernetich, Zachary Keegan, Garret Oberts, and Adam Coats.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, St. Francis of Assisi Church; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Marjorie has been laid to rest in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Sanctuary of Hope.
