Edward Roger “Edd” Varney, 70, of Ottawa passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Pleasant View Luther Home .

Memorial Services will be held at 11 am, Thursday, March 15 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. Corey Krengiel officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 am, prior to services, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park, with military honors.

Edd was born June 20, 1947 in Ottawa to Michael and Charlotte (Bieschke) Varney. He married Renae Rickelm on September 30, 1972 at St. Joseph Church in Marseilles.

Edd was a proud member of the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1969. He retired from Libby Owens Ford and was a member of St. Columba Church, the American Legion, and Local 19. Edd was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants, and the Dallas Cowboys. He also had a passion for drag racing and NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife, Renae; a daughter, Krista (Jeff) Schinzel of Ottawa; two grandsons, Matthew Towne and Blake DeRosa; four brothers, Stephen, David, Richard and Kevin Varney; four sisters, Linda Halm, Marcia Varney, Barbara Godwin, and Virginia Foulker; and his beloved dog, Tinker.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Dena Rae Towne.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Smith, Tadd Varney, Tim, Chris, and Nick Sarver, and Rich Jovanovich

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his family.

Edd has been laid to rest in the Garden of Hymns.
