William N. Collins, 86, of Barrington, died on Wednesday morning, August 31, at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday September 3, 2016 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, with Rev. Philip Peterson, Pastor of Stavanger Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. An additional memorial service is being planned at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Barrington.
William was born on May 17, 1930 in River Forest to Cyrus and Helen (Newell) Collins. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. William was a graduate of the University of New Mexico. He married Frances Olson Tesdal on June 29, 1963 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottawa. William owned and operated Brans Nut Company in Wauconda. He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Barrington, where he was a member of the choir and a member of the American Rose Society.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, of Barrington, a brother Cass (Mary) Collins, of Woodhills, CA, nieces and nephews, Gary (Lynn) Olson, Greg Olson, Debbie Justice, Linda (Greg) Chellino, Terri Olson, Howard (K.J.) Olson, Carolin (Dennis) Migliazzo, Barbara Collins, and Tom (Arlene) Collins, and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to Stavanger Lutheran Church or St. Michael’s Episcopal Church.
Pallbearers will be Steven Olson, Michael and Kyle Upham, Tim Justice, Scott Shepherd, and Curt Altman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary, Greg, and Howard Olson, Greg Chellino, Harv Altman, Bill Hilborn III, and Bob Rutkowski.
William has been laid to rest in the Garden of Devotion.
