Christopher “Bryd” Smith, 20, of Ottawa passed away Friday, November 20, 2015 at his home.
Funeral Ceremony will be held at noon Friday, November 27, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to noon at the church prior to services. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park. Arrangements are entrusted to the Ottawa Funeral Home and Crematory.
Christopher was born February 26, 1995 in Streator, Illinois. His parents are Brandie Smith and Chris Wilson. He was raised by his mother, Deacon Derrell Redmond, and his church. Since June of 1997 Chris lived in Ottawa, Clinton, Iowa, and Streator. He was a talented a tattoo artist and enjoyed skateboarding. Chris loved his friends and family. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Chris met Jesus the last year of his life and enjoyed praying with his dad Straw. His caregiver, Deborah Richter read the Bible to him from start to finish; they finished reading it October 17, 2015. He always wanted the best for his brothers and was a proud uncle. He loved to smile a lot!
He is survived by his parents, Brandie Redmond-Smith, Deacon Derrell Redmond both of Ottawa, and Chris Smith of Streator; his grandmother, Betty Brown of Memphis, TN; godmother, Hidie Varner; ten siblings, Damien Smith, Malcolm Prince, Kyle Prince, BJ Redmond, Rosa Williams, Elizabeth Duey, Cantrice Johnson, Talissa Wilson, Tamyra Byrne, and Aisha Skaggs; aunt, Lucretia Harrington; great aunt, Jayne Wilkerson Chainy; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his caregivers Robert Phillips and Deborah Richter.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Cindy Warwick-Smith, Donald Smith, and Lettie Phillips, his great grandmother, Helen Warwick; one uncle, Darrell Brown; and his cousin, Kamiley Williams.
Pallbearers will be Michael Varner, Eric Peacock, Justin Borman, Danny McCormick, Tevin Williams, Dewane Prince, Chance Brown Jr., Chris Wilson, Tyler Cordray, Devin Cordray, and BJ Redmond.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Damien Smith, Malcolm Prince, Kyle Prince, Rosa Williams, Eric Coleman, Zander Smith, Raymond Godwin, Elizabeth Duey, Ceonna Nance, Kevin Perkins, and Stacy Redmond.
Memorials may be directed to his family.
Christopher is laid to rest in the Garden of Hymns.
