OTTAWA – Foster L. Jett, age 85, of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday morning, September 23, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Sherry Stevenson officiating. Entombment will follow in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Oakwood Memorial Park with military rites by the Ottawa Veterans Organization. Visitation will be held from Noon to service time Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Daniel and David Jett, Frank Neumann IV, Ryan Grieves, Vern Johnson and Jacob Leffelman. Honorary pallbearers will be Edward L. Raines and Aiden Davis.
Foster was born March 18, 1930 in Ottawa, Illinois, a son of Charles Franklin and Gertrude Leona (Lock) Jett. He married Betty Jean Robinson April 23, 1949 in Ottawa. She preceded him in death November 18, 2014. Surviving are his children, Daniel Jett of Compton, IL, Denice (Edward) Raines of Hobson, Montana, and Dalinda Thompson of La Salle; his grandchildren, David Jett, Shawnda Winter, Edward (April) Raines, Tracy Grieves, Frank X. Neumann IV, and Lindsey Davis; eight great grandchildren, Ryan Grieves, Jace Winter, Mason Neumann, Victoria Raines, Aiden Davis, and Makylie, Jaxsen, and Gemma Leffelman; four step great grandchildren, Aaron Jr. and Leanne Howell, and Austin and Ashley Rinebold; and a sister, Mildred Louise Meyers of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Adolph Rondolph Jett, Woodrow James Jett, Charles Franklin Jett, Jr., and George Russell Jett; and four sisters, Mae Mary (Mamie) Jett-Schulthies, Hazel Virginia Carroll, Rose Amy Jett, and Olive Bernice Hermann.
Foster was a member of Crossbridge Community Church of the Nazarene in Ottawa where he was active in a Bible study group. He retired from Libby Owens Ford in 1990 after 42 years of dedicated service. Foster proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He had many hobbies including coin collecting, family history, hunting, fishing, and camping. Foster loved woodworking and building. His skills were demonstrated by the building of his own home. Foster was a devoted family man and cherished his time spent with them. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Foster is laid to rest in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Sanctuary of Love.
